How I Left the Right One for Another one

It is true
Being a Christian can be tough
You have your good days
Your bad days
Sometimes you hit  bumps in the road
Sometimes you are FOCUSED
And sometimes you are
NOT!

I recently noticed a pattern in my life that desperately needed to change!

I WAS NOT FOCUSED

Okay wait, I was TOO focused but on the wrong thing..

Before I had a Boyfriend...

I spent time with God like crazy.
I prayed, fasted and worshipped.

Now that I have this great man...

I AM TOO FOCUSED ON ...

Our latest series of arguments have been solely on  my desire for him to spend MORE time with me. Granted he works and goes to school full time and I go to school full time and work part time.. so our time together is VERY LIMITED

I would take time to plan these great intricate surprise dates in the allotted time we would expect to be together and
BOOM
Just like that something would come up. I would be so disappointed and I would be so angry because I desired to be with him.

I later realized that I would plan to spend time with God and if my beau was available I would jet off to be with him. God  desired to be with me and I was letting someone else take His place.

“You shall not make idols for yourselves or

erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set

up a figured stone in your land to bow down

to it, for I am the LORD your God."

Leviticus 26:1

An idol is anything that takes the place of God in your life and it is very clear that my priorities were off balance. If I could personalize this it would say, "DeLisa place no man before me, I know you love him but you belong to Me.  As I pondered on this before going to sleep. I had a very meaningful dream.

I was in a foreign place (I love to travel) and I was in charge of girls and they were complaining and a sister I went on my very first  mission trip came to me to remind me of a flower.

When I went to Guatemala for a Beauty for Ashes Retreat, I met Lauren and on a soccer field she grabbed my hand and prayed with me and she told me how she saw this flower of ministry blooming in my life.

When I woke up, I understood that God had called me to do something and I needed to focus on Him and what He has called me to do.  Yes, I have fallen in love but my boyfriend should NOT be my idol.

“You shall have no

other gods before

me."

Exodus 20:3

It is important that I stay focused on the things God has called me to do. Often too many women get into a relationship and seek to please a man but there is more to life.

To get back in the swing of things, I picked up a new notebook to journal my prayers and have challenged myself to journal my prayers for the month of MARCH! It is important to set time out of your daily schedule to spend with the LORD. I find that journaling helps me get into a groove.

So yes I left the right One for another one but thankfully He forgives  and His Grace is sufficient.

Haitian Hands ▸ How to Make Bouillon

When dating someone from another country it is wise to not expect them to eat like you. This is my favorite part of cultural exchange.. FOOD! My boyfriend comes from home cooked Haitian meals everyday and their family rarely eats out. However, I am the opposite. I am so accustom to stopping and getting something to eat on my way to school or on my way to work.

We've discussed the benefits of eating home cooked meals and it has motivated me to live and eat better. Since I love Haitian food so much, I followed my sister around the kitchen learning to make this Haitian delicacy known as Bouillon. It's deliciously spicy and I just can't get enough.

The more time I spent in the kitchen the more I realized that I don't want my future family eating fast food. I would rather them eat my hard work... so cheers to

It's Valentine's Day

My wonderful boyfriend had every intention of surprising me for Valentine's Day and I said this:

"It's not important to me for you to buy me gifts or do nice things for me on this day because everyone else is doing that. I don't like to be like everyone else and neither do you, I like for things to be special. All the restaurants will be booked and people will be everywhere trying to celebrate "love". We celebrate love every time we are together. Valentines Day is just another gimmick to get people to buy a bunch of stuff they don't need."

This is not one of those cases where the female is like, "You don't have to get me anything"; but deep down the male knows that if she doesn't receive anything he will be in BIG trouble. I truly don't desire a box of chocolates, roses or a stuffed animal. I would rather hang out with him, make videos and eat Haitian food.

Love has nothing to do with material things but rather things like forgiveness, kindness,  patience, self control, and service.

I made him a Valentine though but it was thoughtful, simple and free.

Memories with him are my favorite things to collect. I'm sure I annoy him with all my random videos  and pictures but capturing these memories are fun.

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone !

Be4IDO Books: The 5 Love Languages

Recommended Reading
A New York Times Bestseller, The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman is  noted for helping countless relationships.  In our relationship, marriage is the ultimate goal.We identified this goal early in our relationship , therefore neither of us are confused about which direction we are headed. I figured learning each others love language would be beneficial to our journey.

Know Thy Self

When reading this book it was important for me  to analyze myself and what truly made me feel loved.  I knew instantly that my primary love language would be
QUALITY TIME.

This book showed me how much I truly value time. I am simply never late because I value a person's time. I love spending quality time with people. In fact,  I don't have to do much of anything simply engaging in a conversation with me without any distractions is ideal. When I am with my boyfriend, my phone is usually on airplane mode that way I can still snap a photo or shoot a random video.

My secondary love language is
PHYSICAL TOUCH
This was no surprise. I am a HUGGER! I appreciate physical touch because it is comforting. I was not always like this but when I fostered children it definitely changed me.

                                                      KNOW THY BOO

I thought before having him take the test, I would simply take a guess. I figured after knowing each other for 6 months I should know a thing or two about his love language.

I guessed that his primary love language would be
Words of Affirmation.

I was WRONG!

After reading the book and taking the profile test, the test  results taught me that we are more alike than I expected.

 Knowing this information is valuable,
Thank you Gary Chapman.

I Would Be Proud to Have a Son Like Him

My decisions in life are often determined by if I would approve of my future daughter following in my footsteps. If my future daughter is anything like me, I hope she falls in love with a man like
Velrick Guerrier

Velrick earned the Quarterly Award!

  1 Timothy 5:8
"But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

Everyday, I witness him going to a job to provide  for his family while  dreaming of a better tomorrow. He often works until the wee hours of the morning and wakes up early to make it to school the next day. I commend him for coming to the United States of America, for learning English,  for his strong desire for an education and his drive and determination to have a better life. I am proud of his work ethic and so is Walt Disney World. He was recently awarded the Quarterly award for his outstanding performance and service at the Magic Kingdom.

Fortunately, for me he  was awarded movie tickets but he doesn't watch movies so he selflessly gave one of his free movie tickets to a friend and left me the other movie ticket and a coupon for free popcorn and a drink! The perks!

  Proverbs 29:18
"Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, but happy is he who keeps the law. "

Every day I hear of this business man's dreams:

  • How he desires to go to work dressed in a suit and tie everyday.
  • How he wants to make enough money to provide for his family but  also help others.
  • How he wants all of his  children to play instruments so he can have a  Guerrier Family Band to lead worship.
  • How he always wants a spare bedroom in his house so that servants of God always have a place to stay.
  • How in his house he always wants food to be prepared so that if anybody stops by they never leave without food.
Speaking of FOOD! Have you ever tried Haitian food? OMG! I love Haitian food!
You should definitely try it. I totally aspire to make Haitian food it is amazing.

I would be proud to have a son like him because he never ceases to amaze me.
